Does Tévez like Dimitar?

The objective of this Discussion is to prove or refute the next hypothesis: Carlos Tévez hates Dimitar Berbatov.

It has been 4 months since Dimitar joined Manchester United. Ferguson paid a club record transfer fee to get him. So it was obvious from September 1st that SAF wanted him as main striker and not just a squad player.

The problem with Tévez is that he was part of the starting XI before Dimitar arrived. And now, Ferguson prefers the Rooney-Dimitar partnership leaving Tévez with few matches to play. I suspect Tévez hates Dimitar because of it. I can see it when they play together, the way he looks at Dimitar, the way he ignores him when Dimitar is in better position, the way he celebrated the Stoke goal as he was the architect of the goal and barely thanked Dimitar.

Please add your views about this issue. Also, your impression of their interaction after every match with both of them on the pitch is welcome.

Yes I agree with you. Although I think he will be axed sooner rather than later (Tevez or not). There are rumours of other players SAF is interested in - Huntalaar being one of them and he would suit us - perfect partner for Wayne. Still it is silly season and everyone in the Premiership is linked with everyone else. It is out of the fans' hands although it would be nice if for once the management of the club took some notice of the banners etc that are put up at every home game I go to. We are a great club who attracts the best players and whether Berba stays or goes SAF will get the right players in I am sure and I will continue to support our great club (but still follow the career of Berba!)

Last August, when rumors flew about Dimitar might sign for ManUtd, I was very excited. I have hear what he did for Spurs and, that month we almost were the bottom club on the table, grinding results with Rooney and Tévez unable to score. Even The Sun published articles supporting the buy, "Dimi will fix it".

But this past season has shown he is not suited for ManUtd, I agree. We fans love fast football and Dimitar is not that kind of player. But I also think that Ferguson is a manager that has created great players, and maybe he can improve Dimitar's game in two years time. Dimitar needs to show some effort or Ferguson will throw him out.

Tevez has now signed for Man City so there is another problem for Mitko over with. Man City will not win a lot more by buying everyone. They have to get used to each other and their styles of play. They cannot buy the Premiership and as long as SAF is in charge they will never get past us! Tevez is under contract to Man Utd until the end of June so an official announcement will be made on 1st July on the OS.

Tévez loves that kind of challenge. Look how good he was for West Ham. But I will believe it [City's buy] when I see it published in a reliable newspaper source.

A month or so ago, an article in SkySports addressed the other side: "How much must Dimitar Berbatov hate Carlos Tevez?" The writer, as many others, differentiated both styles as completely opposites. He starts with the notion of what Dimitar might think when he sees Tévez running thru the field when they are winning by 4 goals. He writes of Dimitar:

"Berbatov's laissez-faire school of thought/movement can be frustrating for the partisan but the manner in he which he nonchalantly brought down Darren Fletcher's long ball and laid on the perfect pass for Tevez in the recent Manchester derby was more je ne sais quoi. Berbatov's got that certain something you just can't bottle, although there have been reports he has been in talks about fronting a new antiperspirant, it's got the tagline - BERBATOV: Guaranteed no sweat... Berbatov's physique hardly does him any favours either. He's got the head of Andy Garcia and body of Jarvis Cocker and just doesn't look like a footballer. An up and coming mafioso maybe, but when he finally takes the hint and tracks back his tackling is reminiscent of a geography teacher that's had to take PE at the last minute."

Finally, we have confirmation of what we have suspected over the last 9 months. Carlos Tévez blames Dimitar for his demise as a Manchester United player. Last week, Tévez granted an interview to TyC Sports television network where he talks candidly of his departure. Tévez’s loan to Manchester United expires at the end of June and the club offered him a 5 year deal, covering the 25 million GBP asking price and a pay rise to match Dimitar’s. Tévez turned the offer down two weeks ago and is looking at offers from Chelsea, Manchester City and an unnamed third club.

In this interview Tévez makes it clear that when he saw ManUtd acquired the services of Dimitar from Tottenham the last day of the summer window 2008, he knew it was over. He thought they bought Dimitar to do his [Tévez’s] work. Tévez kept comparing his first season as joint second top scorer (behind Cristiano’s amazing displays) and claims he did good and accepted being a substitute. But in his second season he thought he did the same good job but could not explain to himself why he was dropped to the bench. Tévez is in great need of first team football to show his efforts to his national coach (Maradona) so he can be part of the Argentinean team for the World Cup.

Now, Tévez needs to mature and consider several things:

1. He and Dimitar are totally different players. Tévez is a “trier”, is not afraid to run his heart out and charge at defenders. He has missed a couple of memorable sitters in his second season and is not technically gifterd. Dimitar does not run, he also missed several sitters but he is technically great.

2. He claims Dimitar was bought to do his work. In that line of thinking, Rooney must have thought that Tévez was loaned to do HIS work. He does not realize that Ferguson wanted 4 top strikers to emulate the 1999 triple feat.

3. I clearly remember the beginning of his second season. ManUtd began loosing and drawing. The lack of goals was palpable, they were grinding out results. Not that it was a walk in the park with Dimitar. But Dimitar’s credentials at Tottenham suggested he would create the much needed goals.

Other bloggers call it was a good riddance. I would not be that black and white but without Cristiano, we do not need a bad influence in the team that does not accept Ferguson’s tactical decisions. At least Cristiano was able to carry the team in his prime but Tévez would never be capable of that all his life.
