Manchester United beat Wigan Athletic away at the JJB Stadium. Two goals scored in the second half against one for the home side allowed Manchester United to stay in pole position, 6 points above Liverpool and equal games played. The team is just one point away of the Premiership title with 2 more fixtures to go.
It was an important match in order to secure the title as early as possible. The starting XI was: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; Evra, Evans, Vidic and O’Shea as defenders; Anderson, Scholes and Carrick as midfielders; Rooney, Dimitar and Cristiano as forwards.
The pitch was awful, slippery as it was raining. We saw the players slipping everywhere and shooting awkward. Wigan scored the first goal in the 28th minute beating/fouling Vidic who got angry at the rival player and kept complaining for the first half. After the goal, Cristiano switched to a forward position pairing with Dimitar, leaving Rooney on the wing. Cristiano and Rooney had very good efforts on goal very early in the match, with Dimitar involved in both plays.
In the second half, Tévez substituted Anderson in the 57th minute. And just 4 minutes later he scored the equalizer in the 61st minute, assisted by Carrick. Not all players came to celebrate, as they remembered the lame shut off from his last goal, neither Cristiano, Vidic or Dimitar were seeing hugging Tévez. Giggs substituted Scholes in the 74th minute. Park substituted Dimitar in the 88th minute.
Carrick scored the goal that put United within 1 point of their third successive Premier League title! United tried and tried to get a goal, they suffer for the result. Finally Carrick scored in the 85th minute. This match showed how the team gets complacent at the beginning, grinds for the results and hate slippery surfaces.

Although Dimitar was the front man and almost every play went thru him, he did not create as much with Cristiano and Rooney at his side. He had a regular performance.
From ManUtd.com: “Dimitar Berbatov - The Bulgarian was typically calm under pressure and was involved in several fine passing moves, linking particularly well with Rooney and Ronaldo. Carlos Tevez - Maintained his knack of scoring big goals by outrageously back-heeling Carrick’s wayward shot into the net, just minutes after coming off the bench.”
From Manchester Evening News: “Berbatov: Was unhappy with his colleagues movement at times but he had some classy moments 7. Rooney: Guilty of a bad first half miss but Wigan could never settle when he was on ball 7. Tevez: Great impact 9.”
From Goal.com: “Berbatov: 7.5 - Helped set up two great moves early on and was involved in all of United's best attacking moments. Rooney: 6.5 - Worked incredibly hard but guilty of missing two great chances, a gilt edged header early on and another shot just before half time. Tevez: 7.5 - Scored within minutes of his arrival and was a real handful.”
