Manchester United drew with 3 goals at Old Trafford against CSKA Moscow for the group stages of the Champions League. This match came in the middle of injuries, birthdays and before the important match against top-leaguers Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Dimitar and Vidic did not play due to injury. The result puts United in the knockout stages of the Champions League as their points and their results against CSKA Moscow qualifies them even if they lose the next two matches.

Ferguson fielded a second string team: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; Fabio, Evans, Brown and Neville as defenders; Nani, Scholes, Fletcher and Valencia as midfielders; Macheda and Owen as forwards. The Russian team has a new coach, who assumed the position around two weeks ago, replacing former Dimitar’s and Tottenham’s coach Juande Ramos.

The makeshift defense is to blame for the goals received. In the first half, the visitor scored the first goal in the 27th minute. The Owen scored United’s goal on the 32nd minute assisted by Nani. Then, a couple minutes later, the rivals scored again in the 34th minute. The second half started like a nightmare, with the visiting side scoring their third goal in the 47th minute. Fletcher was shown a yellow card on the 50th minute for diving after a rival player fouled him on CSKA’s penalty area. Rooney and Evra substituted Nani and Fabio, respectively in the 57th minute. Macheda is shown a yellow card on the 74th minute for a foul on a rival; then he was substituted by Obertan in the 82nd minute. Scholes scored United’s second goal in the 84th minute. Valencia, Cristiano’s replacement, scored the equalizer in the 92nd minute! Obertan was shown a yellow card in the 95th minute for a foul. A rival player was sent off for a second yellow in the 97th minute.

Chelsea also played today, drew with two goals against Atlético de Madrid in Spain. At last, Drogba has played a Champions League match and scored both goals, after his ban for the unfortunate semifinal events against Barcelona.

Such a goal fest in the fourth day match of the Champions League, as Marseille demolished Zürich 6:1 in Real Madrid’s group; Wolfsburg also scored 3 goals against Besiktas in ManUtd’s group. Cristiano’s new team drew with one goal vs AC Milan in Italy; he is still injured.

Next match is on Sunday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for the EPL.
