Club World Champions
Manchester United is the Club World Champion. The team beat the Ecuadorian team Liga de Quito. Rooney scored the solitary goal at the 73rd minute assisted by Cristiano. Vidic received a straight red card in the beginning of the second half because of a foul over a rival player.
Again, Dimitar did not play but he was on the bench. Ferguson fielded an energetic team: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra as defenders; Cristiano, Carrick, Anderson and Park as midfielders; Tévez and Rooney as forwards. It was said that Dimitar was not fully recovered to start. But I also believe Tévez deserved to play this final as he contributed last season to win the Champions League which gave them access to this tournament. After Vidic’s sent off, Tévez was substituted by the defender Evans.
Dimitar was part of the celebrations, he received a medal and he was part of the team photos with the trophy. I think he was with the team the whole time, even made the stadium leap; unlike Scholes and Giggs who left earlier. Rooney was man of the tournament and top scorer. Cristiano was silver-man of the tournament.
I think this medal should teach Dimitar two things:
1. Give him the motivation to do more, to be part of a winning team and do his best to accomplish more and help the team accomplish more.
2. To see how the team copes with pressure. When Cristiano was sent off against City, Dimitar looked very worried when the red card flashed and the remainder of the match he looked disappointed and even less energetic. What would happen if other teammates did the same against Quito? They would not have become World Champions. He must learn to give his all even if something happens to a team mate or the club has to climb a goal difference.
