Foundation awards for gifted children

Last night, Dimitar was in Bulgaria awarding gifted children for their achievements through the year as part of an initiative of his Foundation. This project will award children every year and they will be granted annual scholarships. Also this year, the Bulgarian Education Ministry provided laptops for the winners.

The awarded children have achievements in art, science or sport. The ceremony took place in the Military Club in Sofia. Thousands were expecting to see Dimitar and he signed autographs at the end of the event. Apparently there was chaos as the Military Club capacity was not enough; reports say a few children invited to the ceremony could not get inside.

Over 3 thousand applications were reviewed and a special Jury selected the winners. "This project is made with one purpose - to help talented children. I want to tell the children that will have people who will appreciate what they do. All who failed to take the prize today, may try next year "said Dimitar Berbatov.

Daniel Valchev ,Minister of Education, attended the ceremony. "The Ministry of Education and Science with great pleasure support the initiative of Dimitar Berbatov. He showed how one could Bulgarian may think not only for his career, but also to help children who want to succeed in his field," said Minister Valchev .

Kipriyan Berbatov, second cousin of Dimitar, won the category of sport for children from 5 to 8 as the youngest winner class chess-player.

Dimitar attended the event with permission of Alex Ferguson, as he is expected to return immediately to Manchester as he will probably play a part in the second leg semifinal for the Carlilng Cup this Tuesday, today.
