Manchester United beat Blackburn Rovers with two goals at Old Trafford. Dimitar scored the first one and was named Man Of the Match. This result keeps them in second place of the EPL table, two points behind Chelsea who demolished Bolton. Vidic did not play because of injury.

The starting XI was: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; O’Shea, Brown, Evans and Evra as defenders; Valencia, Anderson, Carrick and Nani as midfielders; Rooney and Dimitar as forwards.

The first half ended scoreless however Dimitar had an effort on goal from far away, another effort with a header, a goal disallowed for Rooney’s offside on the 39th minute and an effort that went wide. The second half started with Dimitar’s goal in the 55th minute assisted by Evra; Dimitar controlled Evra’s pass superbly and turned to fire on goal; acrobatic. Later Obertan, the new winger, substituted Nani in the 63rd minute. Owen replaced Dimitar on the 78th minute, resting him for the midweek match. And the calm came on the 87th minute as Rooney scored the second goal assisted by Anderson. On the 90th minute, a Blackburn goal was disallowed on offside but it was magnificent to see Van der Sar denying the player on his first shot.

Shoot for goal

ManUtd.com: “Dimitar Berbatov - A frustrating first period for the Bulgarian, but he had the last laugh with an outstanding opening goal to cap an impressive all-round display.”

BBC.com: “Berbatov cracks in a fantastic opening goal from the edge of the box for United… Nine minutes into the second period a huge smile appeared on the face of the Bulgarian as he broke the deadlock with a sublime piece of skill inside the box.”

The Sun: “SHARP SHOOTER ... Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring as Manchester United sank Blackburn… Berbatov had been left frustrated as Paul Robinson performed heroics in the Rovers goal to deny him on two occasions in the opening period. But the Bulgarian's persistence paid off as he baffled Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen before firing in a fine effort after 55 minutes.”

M.E.N.: “MANCHESTER United big guns Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney fired as the Reds defeated Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford… United made the breakthrough after the break when Berbatov showed great skill when he got on the end of a cross-shot from Evra. He got the better of Ryan Nelsen, twisting and turning before sending a shot beyond Robinson for his fourth goal of the season… Berbatov - Superb touch and finish fired United ahead and helped erase thoughts of a first half in which he might have scored a hat-trick, if not for some wasteful finishing. 8”

The Independent: “Berbatov touch of class fills void left by Ronaldo… This, however, is developing into the campaign in which Berbatov proves his worth, providing at least a scattering of the magic that was lost with Cristiano Ronaldo's departure for Madrid.
