Manchester United had an incredible come back from two goals down at half time to beat Tottenham Hotspur with 5 goals scored in the second half at Old Trafford. Early, Liverpool had an away win over Hull, placing them in first place temporarily. ManUtd are still three points clear at the top with a game on hand over Liverpool.
Ferguson fielded an strong side plus Nani. The starting XI was: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra as defenders; Nani, Fletcher, Carrick and Cristiano as midfielders; Rooney and Dimitar as forwards.
Dimitar had a good performance. He was very good in the first half and he scraped the fifth goal. He showed great effort, showing forethought, incredible ball control and great passing. He even had an opportunity in the first minute of play. I saw him running from the middle of the field to the opposing goal side. He even ran fast and covered a lot of ground for his goal.
The Spurs’ goals came in the 29th and 32nd minutes courtesy of Bent and Modric. Ferguson had to do something even when ManUtd had a lot of possession. Cristiano had remarkable opportunities form free kicks but the Spurs’ keeper was very alert. Tévez substituted the unskilled, clumsy and foolish Nani giving the home side more movement at the start of the second half. The breakthrough came in the 57th minute when the referee Howard Webb awarded a controversial penalty when the Spurs’ goalkeeper appeared to interrupt Carrick’s run. Cristiano, the designed penalty kicker, showed how it is done. Knowing the importance of the play, he scored the penalty and quickly ran to resume the match. Scholes substituted Fletcher in the 61st minute.
Minutes later, Rooney and Cristiano scored successive goals in the 67th and 68th minutes. Rafael assisted Rooney and the latter assisted Cristiano. The second goal from Cristiano was ManUtd’s third which meant the home side was ahead 3:2. That prompted him to show off his chiseled body to the female audience; he took his jersey off in a euphoric celebration. The rules of the FA prohibit that kind of display, so he was booked.
Rooney scored his second goal of the evening in the 71st minute assisted by Cristiano, making it 4:2. Then, it came Dimitar’s time to shine. He was somehow involved in the previous 3 goals and he deserved his own. Tévez passed to Dimitar at the middle of the field; Dimitar passed to Rooney who ran towards the left corner; by that point Dimitar had run toward the middle of the goal area so Rooney passed to him and Dimitar headed but the keeper and defender scrambled allowing Dimitar to react and finally scrapping his goal. A little messy but it was a goal nonetheless. ManUtd was 5:2 in th 79th minute.

The referee came under fire as the penalty awarded turned as the breaking point, opening the flood of goals. Also, Tévez energy proved fundamental and the dismissal of Nani balanced the team.
Keane was playing for Tottenham but had a quiet evening.
Now what others have to say about Dimitar’s performance for this match:
From Ferguson: “I don't think he gave the ball away once, throughout the entire game, I thought he was our best player in the first half and then in the second he produced some wonderful moments. He produces moments that make you sit back and say: 'that's world class'. The pass he gave Ronaldo in the second half was unbelievable. Look, he missed a penalty kick. Many players have done that, Rio missed one last weekend as well and it’s all forgotten about. But because we paid so much money for Berbatov people are on his back. I know it was a bad penalty kick, I'm not making excuses for it. But we have to move on. It’s only a missed penalty. He produced some fantastic football last week but didn’t get the credit because of the penalty miss.”
From ManUtd.com: “Dimitar Berbatov: Brilliant. Has had some stick this week but responded with a scintillating display. Held the ball up superbly and rounded off the win with a deserved (if inelegant) goal. Wayne Rooney: Phwoar! Scored two, made two and supplied the pass that led to the penalty. Relativly quiet in the first half but shone after the break. Absolutely awesome. Carlos Tevez: Within seconds of the restart it was clear Carlos was up for this one. Didn't get on the scoresheet but brought tremendous energy to United's game. The catalyst for a sensational turnaround.”
From Manchester Evening News: “Berbatov: Won back fans. Started well, went quite but then had a major say in United's revival 7. Rooney: Irrepresible in the second period after a lacklustre first half 8. Tevez: Added much needed bite 7.”
From Goal.com: “Berbatov: 7.5 - Linked really well with Tevez and Rooney and bundled home the fifth to silence the boo boys. Rooney: 9.0 – A brilliant display by the striker who netted twice and had a hand in the other three. A great ball sent Carrick racing through for the penalty and two super crosses set up Ronaldo and Berbatov. Tevez: 7.5 - Made a huge impact, helped United up the tempo and his substitution proved key.”
Chelsea and Arsenal also won their matches.
