Last night the PFA celebrated the dinner gala to award the best of the season. Ryan Giggs, the experienced 35-year-old Manchester United midfielder, won the main award: The PFA Players’ Player of the Season 2008/09. Ashley Young, Aston Villa midfielder, won the PFA Young Player of the Season. It is quite an achievement for Giggs, topping his illustrious career with this individual award. Cristiano Ronaldo won this award for the previous two years.

The Team of the Season was also named based on the votes of all members. It is mainly composed with United players. However no Manchester United forward made the cut; Cristiano is a midfielder. The named XI is: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; Johnson (Portsmouth), Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra as defenders; Cristiano, Gerrard (Liverpool), Giggs, Young (Aston Villa; Young Player) as midfielders; Anelka (Chelsea) and Torres (Liverpool) as forwards.

PFA Teams of the Year – Voted by the Players
By Dave Smith; April 26, 2009
As for the fans voting for that same award, I think I saw Gerrard with 50% of the voting which strikes me as hacking. But I cannot confirm it since I was not able to find the web page again.
Reminder: You have until April 30th (UK time) to vote for who you think is United’s player of the season. Dimitar is nominated, but think about the contribution of others. Go to the official ManUtd website to cast your vote.
