Congratulations! Manchester United won their 11th Premier League title, equaling Liverpool’s record with 18 League titles. Manchester United are Barclays Premier League Champions 2009. It is three in a row. Remember that the format of the present competition was instituted in the 1990’s. ManUtd only needed a draw with Arsenal to claim the title.
The preparations were in place and the trophy was at Old Trafford waiting for the inevitable. Ferguson claims they were very long 90 minutes. Fábregas and Van Persie from Arsenal almost spoiled the party with good efforts on goal. It is said it is only the second time they receive the Premier League title at Old Trafford.
Manchester United had a goalless draw with Arsenal. Ferguson fielded a strong team trying to avoid any bad surprise. The starting XI was: Van der Sar as goalkeeper; Evra, Evans, Ferdinand and O’Shea as defenders; Giggs, Fletcher, Carrick and Cristiano as midfielders; Rooney and Tévez as forwards. Tévez lead the line but was caught in many (4) off sides. In all truth, the match was boring, with good efforts from both teams, nothing to be really nervous, surprised or mesmerized. Tévez had the best chance of the match but spoiled it with his lack of technique. Cristiano had two close free kicks. Park substituted Tévez in the 67th minute. Again Tévez was disrespectful to the manager as he shook his head, but this time it was brief; he took more time waving good bye to the four corners of the stadium. He was interviewed during the celebration and said it is very difficult to think of staying in Manchester United. Anderson substituted Rooney in the 90th minute. Dimitar was on the bench the whole match and after the intermediate we saw him warming up.

Man Utd 0-0 Arsenal
By Phil McNulty
After the final whistle we saw the players hugging and then in the dressing room. Unwisely Tévez took his young daughter there. A bad decision as we saw Ferdinand (who was part of the public during the match) changing into his ManUtd uniform. Ferguson shook the hand of every player, saying “Well done”. Dimitar was sitting in the corner between Evans and Neville. The young players came out first, the ones that did not get a medal because they did not play enough matches (six is the minimum, I think). Brown, Macheda, Gibson and Kuszczak were among them. Then the staff came out, or was they before the young players? Ferguson and the main squad followed. Everyone got their medals, Dimitar was in the middle, Cristiano was last. The trophy is handed to the captain, this time it was Neville who lifted it. All players were jumping and each one kissed and carried the trophy. Cristiano was first and the TV only showed a few, cutting after Ferdinand. We saw Dimitar looking at his medal, examining for the first time.
Later, we saw the players taking their place behind the Champions banner. Dimitar was in the second row, behind Vidic (who held the trophy for that photo shot) and Tévez. He wore the funny hat that defines them as champions. Normally, the players bring their family to the pitch. We got to see Cristiano with many members of his family, and his mom carrying him. We also got to see Ferguson’s grandchildren. It is worth to notice that the 3 boys were wearing Berbatov’s jersey. Maybe, Dimitar is the assistant teacher’s pet as Cristiano is the favorite. During the celebration shots we saw Van der Sar’s wife, Fletcher’s daughter, Vidic’s son, Carrick’s son, Scholes daughter, Giggs daughter. Dimitar was interviewed with Rooney. There were few shots of Dimitar on TV and we could not see if he brought someone. He was alone in those few shots.

Next match is Sunday away against Hull for the last match of the Premier League. The outcome of this match has no implications for Manchester United but Hull needs a good result to stay on the Premiership. Cristiano wants to play to score a goal and ensure his leading goal scorer status; Anelka follows closely.
